For Tonight Just Do The Back Of The Commas Sheet "Using Commas E."

As silly as the Motown songs were, I truly believe that when we go over the final, first thing tomorrow morning, you will understand where you made your mistakes on the figurative language section of the test.

Next week, we will have a test on similes, metaphors, personification, hyperboles, alliteration, and idioms. In addition, study your independent and dependent clauses and complex sentences, compound sentences, and compound/complex sentences, and prepositional phrases.

Any essays need to be checked for the credit union contest?

We talked a little bit about Touching Spirit Bear and began reading the first chapter.

Tonight finish reading chapter one and  in your Vocabulary Note-taking Notebook write one quotation which resonates with you. In other words, write one sentence or a statement made by a character in chapter one and explain why or how you were affected by this line. Why does this quotation strike a chord? Explain in no less than 5 sentences why you were moved by this line.

As I walked around today, I noticed some wonderful essays which were carefully typed and edited. I also noticed some essays which were copied word for word from an internet source. Please make sure you understand the words you used. When you come across a word you're unfamiliar with......use a dictionary and put the sentence into your own words.

Please keep in close contact with your groupmates and make sure everyone is kept in the loop for the final project which is due next Monday, May 5th.

I hope you are learning from this higher level thinking skill activiy.

Today we discussed up to Chapter 19 of The Giver. We reviewed Jonas's realization that warfare is real and damaging. We also talked a bit about characterization and were assigned a character with a partner.

Due tomorrow:

1. Bring in 3 song titles and name of artists which describe your character. Bring in a line or 3 of lyrics which provide an accurate description of your character. Bring in music on your phone if you can download. Bring in a picture from a CD cover, or a picture from online (cite source) which helps to illustrate your character.

Read Chapter 4 Of The Giver. Use Link On This Blog To Listen While Reading. Answer Questions For Chapters 3 And 4 In Vocabulary Notebook.

Start collecting pennies from the year you were born to 2013. Sometimes the 2014 pennies are not available.

Do you have pictures you can scan on your PC to use as an illustration? See what you can bring in from home, but only bring what your family will allow. We do not need an 8x10 glossy professionally done photo. The more you can discuss this activity with your family, the more fun this assignment can be.

Final Penny Book will be due at a date determined by us after discussion and clarification.

Have an older brother or sister who made one? See if you can bring it in as a model.

We took a quiz on chapters 4 and 5.

Finish FIFTH PARAGRAPH in Grammar and Mechanics Notebook. Remember to mention the reasons you would like to trade places for a day with your specific person and an example to support each reason in the last paragraph. Use a real clincher for a closing sentence. Seven sentences is about the least number you should use. TAKE YOUR TIME!!!!!

Finish Up Answering Questions For Chapters 1 and 2. READ BELOW!

You received a list of words, definitions and parts of speech for Chapters 1-3. These should ALL be copied into your Vocabulary/Note-taking Notebook.

On the other side of the vocabulary sheet is a list of questions.  # 1-11 should be filled in on the actual sheet.

# 5-9 are from Chapters 1 and 2 and should be answered in complete sentences in your Vocabulary/Note-taking Notebook.

We received our writing and multiple choice back from Panama Canal and a Vocabulary Test from last week. We will work on improving our writing over the next few weeks.

Hey Kids!

Welcome Back To School!

Today, we wrote about some "resolutions" for the 2014 school year. We all have areas that need some improvement.......ME TOO! We brainstormed for about 15 minutes then focussed on two specific areas in which we need to improve. We will finish this exercise in our Grammar and Mechanics Notebook.

Then we took a look at the MCAS packet we had for homework. We went through the strategies from the BRAIN DUMP and put them to use. We will continue tomorrow.
