Let's Keep on Moving

We are moving through each chapter of The Giver and exploring many new ideas about how the members of the community live in such a controlled environment. We have discussed the Assignments of Asher, Fiona, and soon, Jonas. We are understanding characterization and will begin talking about the primary characters ( who affect the plot) and the secondary characters ( who do not affect the plot but help us to understand the primary characters).
Over the weekend, students will read chapter 8 and do quarter notes. Also, we are constructing a bulletin board advertising The Ceremonies and the objects presented to each child as he or she advances to the next year.
Students who have completed the book are working independently on closing chapters, study of elephants, and writing persuasive essays about what happens at the end of the book. Great work, kids!

Students must "perfect" their banners tonight!

Enjoy the long weekend. Martin Luther King would be thrilled if he were alive today. I am sure he would attend the Inauguration of our next President!
