Final On Monday, December 19th.

Today we used class as an opportunity to study for the final. We also decided on the open response to be scored for part of our final grade.

Remember, if you are fixing you analogies, please put the correct answer, have the paper signed by a parent or guardian, and explain why the answer you fixed is the correct answer.

Vocabulary Words to Page 68, Type Memorial Day Essay and Fix Mistakes.

We reviewed some of the book today and talked about Cole's frustration with his life. We also received our essays back with some corrections to be made in order to receive extra credit for the assignment.

Complete the vocabulary words up to page 68.

Chapters 1-4 Quarter Notes should be complete!

Today we learned about Gerunds and how they can function as a Direct Object, Predicate Noun, Object of the Preposition, or a Subject.

Quarter Notes for Chapter 10 Due Today, Chapter 11 Due on Monday, May 9th.

We are just about finished the book. The action is mounting and the white community is making things more difficult for the Logan family. Today we will review Chapter 9 and 10.

What Memorial Day Means to Me?

Pronoun Test Next Wednesday, March 9th.

Great job with your homework today! We took a Vocabulary Test on the 3rd. section of The Giver today.

We revisited pronouns and received pages 119-120, Subject Pronouns as a review of subject pronouns. For homework we have pages 121-122 Object Pronouns and Pronoun Game but just the ODD NUMBERS!

We will be completing our last "long composition" before the MCAS test. For homework we have the writing prompt about changes that have taken place since fourth grade. For homework, highlight words in the prompt, make a Brain Dump on the back of the prompt and make a web on the back just brainstorming some of the changes.

We will focus on these assignments and get back to the book next week.

We Got Lots Done Today.

We tied up some loose ends today. We corrected some homework on Subjects/Predicates/Prepositional Phrases and Quarter Notes. We read over the Preposition Poems and shared the picture details as a class. In addition, we reviewed the plot of the book and began reading chapter 14 aloud while we began our quarter notes.

Homework: If your poems need work, please finish them over the weekend. Many chose to improve their poems. Finish up the quarter notes for chapter 14 if you have not already done so.

Chapter 16-17 Quarter Notes Due Tomorrow, May 28, 2010. Also, Don't Forget Questions For Chapter 17.

Today we went over the questions and answers for Chapters 15 and 16 of "Touching Spirit Bear." Please finish answering the questions for Chapter 17 tonight.

Yesterday, you began identifying the next section of vocabulary words. Please finish ALL words for Monday, May 31st. We do not have school on Monday, May 31, therefore you already had tonight and now the rest of the weekend to find the correct word. Don't forget to continue reading and to remember those who have died for our country. Think of members of your family who are no longer alive, also.

No Quarter Notes Over the Weekend. Just be sure to finish ALL the vocabualry while you continue to read!

Vocabulary Test on Monday and One Set of Quarter Notes for Chapter 2

We have accomplished quite a bit this week. I am reading the open responses for "A Walk to the Jetty" and many of you are well on your way.

Please actively study your vocabulary words for the test on Monday, January 11th and read Chapter Two of ROT,HMC. Complete just one set of Quarter Notes since this chapter is rather short.

Test on Staves 1-3 on Monday, December 7th, Great Illustrated Classics up to The Spirit Yet To Come

We will have a test on the first three staves of "A Christmas Carol"" on Monday. Be sure to look over all the questions we have answered for homework for all three staves. You will be asked to put twelve events from the three staves in the correct chronological order. Also, make sure you have learned and can remember the eight places Scrooge visited with The Ghost of Christmas Present.
1. page 62 or page 106 The Spirit takes Scrooge through the streets of London. Describe the scene.
2. page 63 or page 108 The Spirit takes Scrooge to the markets and then watches as the people gaily go to church and chapel. What are they doing?
3. page 67 or page 114 The Spirit takes Scrooge to the Cratchit's house and watches the family celebrate Christmas.
4. page 76-77 page 128 The Spirit takes Scrooge throughout the streets on Christmas Day as Scrooge witnesses families celebrating.
5. page 78 page 130 The Spirit takes Scrooge over a moor to a miner's home where generations celebrate in their best clothes.
6. page 79 page 132 The Spirit takes Scrooge to a lighthouse where two older gentlemen sing songs over a can of grog.

Parts of Speech Review

Today we took notes reviewing six of the eight parts of speech. Since we worked on prepositional phrases this week through the use of poetry, we discussed nouns, adjectives,adverbs conjunctions, pronouns and interjections. While Mrs. Jaggers began conferencing with students individually about their transition essays, we worked on a "Parts of Speech Review." We also saw that some words can be used as more than one part of speech. The word "train" for example can be a noun or a verb. If this review sheet has not been completed, it is to be completed over the weekend.

Students in my last period ELA class must fix their transition essays for Monday. Please return the final copy of your essay and your TORSO.
